When a shell sits inside another plugin that owns the address (Plugin Studio → the Research Gallery → …), its own
tab had no key. P1 never wrote it from a nested shell, and P2's ownAddress dropped a nested `tab`, so every tab
inside Studio had the same URL.
`subtab` is a PATH, one segment per nested shell below the owner: ?subtab=regions-dashboard at depth 1, and
?subtab=posterverse.upg-100 when a shell sits inside a shell. There are at most 6 segments, each a plain id.
- A nested shell claims its tab with claimView({ tab }, { depth }), where depth comes from its profile-config
addressDepth (depthOf; its parent passes it down).
- The owner records the claim as that segment: the segments above are kept, the deeper ones and pane/place dropped.
- The same tab again is a no-op (a shell's first-paint claim on a deep link keeps everything below it).
- A segment missing above the claimed depth (a hole) is refused.
- The owner's own tab change drops the whole path.
- subtabAt(search, depth) gives a shell its segment.
Standalone pages and DX Life never see subtab: there the shell is the owner and writes `tab`.
check:view-address H covers depth 1, 2 and 3: first-paint replace, pick push, a composite's pane/place beside
subtab, the same tab claimed again, Back, and the owner's tab change. It has 9 new poisons (52).
Measured in a browser on a fresh load: ?owner=x&pane=map came back as ?pane=map&owner=x through one replaceState.
viewSearch puts the view keys first, and writeViewKeys compared strings. The link meant the same thing and no Back
step was added, but it was a needless write, and on a host it would be a needless router.replace. writeViewKeys now
compares the parsed tab/pane/place. check:view-address B covers it, with a poison (44); the real-file revert fails.
- ownAddress records only pane and place. tab is the owner's own key, so a nested announcement cannot switch it.
- A shell keeps Regions (and UPG100) alive when another tab is open. Switching back dropped ?pane= and ?place=
(the tab change), while the screen still showed them. pane-wrapper and region-dashboards now watch for being
shown again (a ResizeObserver: no height, then height) and claim their pane / place back with a replace. An
address that names one wins, because Back to an entry of this tab is applied while the column has no layout.
- scrollTo(id, null) behaves as scrollTo(id).
check:view-address covers each of these (34 poisons, each caught). The slow pane-wrapper arm runs only for
pane-wrapper poisons, so the self-test takes 16 s.
The address gets its second and third keys:
- ?pane= is the open view of a composite;
- ?place= is Regions' subject.
Both keep the ONE-writer rule:
- On its own leaf the composite owns the address and writes.
- Nested in a shell it announces, and the shell writes.
- On a partner's page nothing is written; a link is still read.
useViewAddress:
- claimView() is the one call for a reader's choice: the owner writes it, any other element announces it.
- ownAddress() lets an owner record its nested elements' announcements, and stops them there.
- An announcement carries only the view keys, one event per action.
- pane and place are siblings: a tab change drops both, but a pane change keeps the place, because Regions keeps
its region while the reader is on the list.
pane-wrapper (buildPaneColumn) takes an opt-in `address`:
- a link opens its pane without writing;
- a click is a push, and a selection made by the same click rides in the same push (one Back step);
- where the reader's scroll settles is a replace;
- Back/Forward scroll and never write;
- the first pane is the default and is never written.
Regions:
- regions-mfe opts its column in and records its panes' announcements on its own leaf. A list click opens the
dashboard with its place in one write.
- region-dashboards claims ?place= instead of writing its #slug with its own pushState (replace at first paint,
push on a choice, re-applied on Back). An old #slug link still opens, and on its own leaf it is rewritten to
?place=.
- urlSync:false now guards only the tab title.
check:view-address adds:
- E: nested claims and the owner;
- F: pane-wrapper on a simulated column;
- G: the Regions wiring.
The census drops region-dashboards (5 writers now). Self-test: 29 poisons, each caught. Real-source mutations are
caught too.
The header claimed that every write to the address bar goes through commitUrl. Only the view keys and the filters
do. The tree's other history writers are pinned by check:view-address's census. The header also says why a push
copies the previous state: a Vue Router page is a 'host' owner, so its router does its own pushes.
Comment only.
library/composables/useViewAddress.js is the page's address for the view a reader is on: ?tab= &pane= &place=, with
a level rule, an id whitelist, and ONE history write (commitUrl). It keeps history.state and sets its `current` to
the new URL, so a link survives the next in-app navigation on a Vue Router host. The OUTERMOST owner writes,
named by profile-config urlOwner:
- 'app' writes history itself;
- 'host' hands its router one dxm-address;
- absent, nothing is written and links are still read.
Nested elements announce dxm-view. Back/Forward is read and never written.
useShareableView's filter write used to call replaceState(null, ...) itself, which wiped the router's state. It
now goes through commitUrl (writeFilterView). A filter write keeps tab/pane/place, and a tab/pane/place write keeps
the filters.
Level 2 is `pane`, not `view`: ?view= is already published by four of our pages.
check:view-address (gates:pre) runs on a simulated browser history. It covers:
- the whitelist and the level rule;
- one push per tab change, with state + current kept;
- no write when unchanged, on a partner page, or by a host owner;
- the filters and the view keys keeping each other through writes, Back and Forward;
- a census of every history writer in library/ and plugin-designs/ (6 today). A new writer fails until it is listed.
The self-test has 14 poisons, each caught. Real-source mutations are caught too: drop current, drop the unchanged
guard, drop the level rule, an uncomposed event, no length cap, an aliased pushState in a plugin.
A second read measured a hole in the phone print keep: a touch after print()
started the grace, and if the print UI then opened (the page hidden, or the
window blurred), nothing cancelled it, so the document could go while the
reader was still choosing Save as PDF. Now:
- going away again during the grace cancels the pending drop, and the next
"back" counts;
- BACK_GRACE_MS is 60 s (was 5 s): a slow phone can still be writing an
11-page packet after its dialog closes, and the kept document is invisible
on screen and replaced by the next print;
- a touch in the first TOUCH_SETTLE_MS (2 s) after print() is not "back" (a
double tap while the preview builds).
check:phone-print-keep gains arm H (a touch, then the print UI, by hiding and
by blur: still mounted past the grace, released after the next back) and arm I
(a touch in the settle window), with the poisons "no cancel when away again"
and "no touch settle window"; arm C now taps Print a few seconds after the
document is ready and stays in the dialog past the grace. The first cut fails
H and I; the pilot's file fails A to H. Desktop stays byte-identical.
On a phone, printDocument mounts the document into the page (#dxm-print-root and
a print-only style) and calls window.print(). It dropped both at afterprint. But
Android Chrome's print() does not block: afterprint fires once the preview is
built, and the file "Save as PDF" writes is rendered later, after the reader
taps Save, from the page as it is then. The preview showed a packet's 11 pages
and the saved PDF was the bare host page.
The document now stays until the reader is back on the page: shown again after
being hidden, focused again after losing focus, or touched after print(), then
BACK_GRACE_MS more for a job still rendering. A new print replaces it, a
cancelled one drops it, and the ten-minute ceiling stays. Listening starts at
print(), so the Print tap of a late print does not count. printImageBlob's
object URL now follows the document (onRelease) instead of afterprint. On
screen the document is display:none, as before. Desktop prints through the
frame exactly as before.
check:phone-print-keep runs the phone timeline on fake timers and a stub DOM
with an Android user agent; the previous file fails it (gone after afterprint,
image revoked). Its self-test poisons the old drop at afterprint, no release
when back, listeners armed at mount, no grace, printImageBlob revoking at
afterprint, and no ceiling.
Seventeen lines in 15 files. Six quoted short fragments from feedback; eleven used "design note" where a
person once stood ("design note selects 2+ rows", "a design note design call"). Each now states the
reason in neutral terms and keeps the technical content and dates.
All edits are comments, except one string: the safety_note text in
library/scripts/research/derive-city-candidates.mjs, a research script that is not bundled and whose
output is not committed. No logic changes.
The case-insensitive census with every plugin agent's name found 30 more lines: library (ProfileLoader,
useMapProvider, ApproxPinNote, listSelection, colocation), the gallery's embed-contract card id, the gospel
plugins' source notes and build scripts, a regions script note and one gate description. Comments and notes
only, except the Gospel x Internet CSV export's provenance line, which no longer names who screened the links.
Comments in library/ and internal/ that quoted a person, attributed a decision to one, used first person,
named fleet agents or carried private host names now state the same technical fact in neutral words:
poster-render (including the comments it writes into generated posters), packet-render, the poster and
research scripts, PosterWall, DataTable, the legends, the layouts and the gates. The network-policy note
states the policy itself. Behaviour is unchanged: a few printed gate messages and reason labels drop an
agent name, the poster-render integrity pin follows its comment-only edit, and series.json changes only in
its _meta and _why notes. The historical poster design snapshots (library/scripts/posters/snapshots/),
which nothing reads, are removed.
esc() prefixed a single quote to a value starting with = + - @, but OWASP's
formula triggers also include a leading TAB and CR, which a spreadsheet can
strip before reading the = behind them. Every map's CSV export shares this
escaper. The shape gate carried a formula probe but never checked it came
back neutralised; it now does, for =, TAB and CR, by slug.
In a right-to-left footer the range "10:11–15" printed as "15–10:11": the numbers of each reference now sit in a
left-to-right isolate (packet-render's own split of book and numbers). The research-map-plus-grid composite
forwards the host's mapTitle to its map, which it did not pass on before. And the packet strings are fetched
when the map mounts (when the browser is idle), so the print's 3 s wait reads them from the cache instead of
dropping the line on a slow network.
The map's "Export poster…" now prints through a shared template: always landscape Letter; a header with the
map's name (from the host's profile-config mapTitle), the view on screen as its subtitle; the legend as a
side panel; and a footer line from the prayer packet's final page (prayer point 6 with Luke 10:2 and
John 10:11-15, in the reader's language). While it renders, a loading screen like the poster wall's shows
the renderer's own progress. Without a mapTitle the view on screen stays the title, as before.
Every other caller of the in-place print moves onto the phone path the poster wall already uses:
printImageBlob (the map's poster/download dialog and research-map) prints the page itself on a phone,
and the gospel tree, the prayer-walk planner and the wall of people groups call printDocument. A caller
without its own progress dialog gets a shared Print bar when the tap has expired, labelled through the
caller's own translator. Desktop keeps the in-place frame unchanged. Source only; the bundles are rebuilt
when it lands.
Every poster, prayer list and card deck printed from a hidden iframe (openPrintFrame), and phone browsers
do not honour a print() inside a subframe: no print dialog ever opened on a phone. printDocument() keeps
that iframe path unchanged on desktop; on a phone or tablet it mounts the document into the page under a
print-only stylesheet that hides everything else, and calls the page's own window.print(). When preparing
the document outlasted the tap's activation, the wall's progress dialog shows a Print button so the print
comes from a fresh tap. The poster wall (Regions, UPG-100, Country Posters) is the first user.
sr asked to adopt usePaneConfig for research-map-plus-grid rather than write a
second fix, and found the one shape it did not cover: people-groups-grid takes
its filters as THREE separate attributes (wagf-region, religion-family,
primary-language) instead of one profile-config blob, so that composite has one
pane of each kind. The helper hardcoded 'profile-config' and gave the grid
nothing.
registerAttrs is the sibling for that shape. It shares the same entries list,
the same watchEffect, the same prune and the same write-only-on-change -- one
mechanism for all four composites rather than a fork per adopter. A helper with
a single caller has not been shown to generalise at all; this is the second
shape that showed it.
Two decisions worth recording. Each attribute is compared and written
independently, so a getter whose region changed does not rewrite the two that
did not and re-trigger the child. And the attribute NAME LIST is pinned at
registration: a later getter that omits a key CLEARS that attribute rather than
leaving a stale filter silently narrowing the grid, which is the same class of
lie as the frozen config this helper exists to fix.
The gate runs the shipped helper with real Vue, not a re-typed copy, because the
dependency-tracking hole found in review is invisible to any test that fakes
reactivity. 28 cases over both shapes. Its subject is the measurement on
development 92ca8b6e6: the outer element reached locale ar by +1.5s while every
nested host carried NO locale key at boot and still none at +15s, across four
composites -- so case 1b asserts that an ABSENT key is still a change.
Case 7 is the adopter's property rather than mine: a re-forward triggered by a
LOCALE change must produce the SAME primary-language string. gridLanguage() can
fall back to a display label, and the grid compares whole normalised values, so
a name fetched in one language matches no row in another. It does not bite today
because the surviving fallback is a value the grid itself produced, but the gate
asserts the class, not today's instance.
Mutation-tested, 7 mutations, all caught: plain array, no write-on-change guard,
skip-instead-of-prune, escaping getter throw, no per-attribute compare, omitted
key left stale, and the label-instead-of-code regression. The first two crashed
rather than naming a case, so cfgOf is null-safe now -- a gate that dies reports
"something went wrong" instead of naming the pane that stopped following.
Registered in package.json scripts and in gates:pre, verified by re-parsing the
file: one key, 104 checks. gates:pre PASS 103 FAIL 0 NM 1.
useShadowStyles keys its <style> by the label and overwrites an existing
tag with the same key, so two components sharing a label keep only the
last one's CSS in a shared shadow root. The regions list lost its sheet
this way to the region card, which had kept the list's label when it was
extracted.
check:shadow-style-labels-unique (gates:pre) fails any label two calls
share, globally rather than per shadow root, so a copied or forked
component is caught when it is copied. It reads the real parsers,
classifies every reference to the function (a rebinding, .call, a
re-export or a namespace import fails instead of hiding a call),
cross-checks the AST against the token stream, and covers the other
ways two calls share a key: unlabelled calls under the dev server's
per-component key, and a fixed label over CSS that varies per caller.
countries-map.vue, a fork of research-map.vue, carried the same label;
it is now 'countries-map', with the country-posters bundle rebuilt and
the tree regenerated. The composable's JSDoc called the label a
debugging name; it now says it is the key.
onBeforeUnmount only binds inside setup(). Calling usePaneConfig anywhere else
produced a Vue warning and, worse, no automatic cleanup -- the watchEffect would
outlive its caller. Found while re-running studio's own two-pane falsifier
locally: the test constructs the helper in an effectScope with no component
instance, and Vue said so.
regions-mfe is unaffected either way, because it calls the helper at <script
setup> top level where the hook is valid. The hazard is for the next adopter.
Guarded with `if (getCurrentInstance())`, the pattern useMapData.js:144 already
uses, and `dispose` is now returned so a caller outside setup has something to
call rather than silently leaking the effect.
Studio's falsifier still passes after the change: registering two panes that read
different refs and changing only pane 2's source writes pane 2 and leaves pane 1
untouched.
Studio's 5B review found a dependency-tracking hole by testing the helper with
real Vue rather than reading it. entries was a plain array, so the watchEffect
tracked only what the FIRST registered getter read: with two panes reading
different refs, changing pane 2's source produced ZERO writes, and pane 2 caught
up only when pane 1's source happened to change. That is this helper's own bug
reappearing for any adopter whose panes read different sources. regions-mfe is
safe today because every getter reads the same cfg and spec -- which is exactly
why a reading could not find it.
entries is now shallowReactive, so register() re-runs the effect and every
getter is tracked. Also from the review:
- stale entries are PRUNED, not skipped: an adopter that rebuilds its pane
column would otherwise keep detached elements and re-run their getters on
every pass forever;
- a getter that throws is reported once per entry instead of being swallowed,
since silence recreates the symptom this helper exists to fix;
- the unused `tag` parameter is gone -- a documented check that does not exist
misleads the next adopter;
- the host argument now documents that it must be in the SAME tree as the
panes, because Element.contains() does not cross a shadow boundary and
passing the custom element would silently skip every write.
regions-dashboard rebuilt so public/ is servable at this sha for the browser
A/B. It is the only bundle that compiles the helper.
regions-mfe built each pane by creating the child element and writing its
profile-config once, inside onMounted, and nothing rewrote it. The pane is handed
a JSON STRING rather than a reactive object, so a later change to the OUTER
element's profile-config updated the composite's own cfg and reached nothing
below it. regions-dashboard is kept alive by v-show rather than remounted, so the
one code path that would have rewritten the attribute never runs again and the
panes stay in the old language for the whole session.
The leaf was never at fault: ProfileLoader's config is a computed over its prop,
lang is a computed over config, and a watchEffect drives appI18n on every change.
Every link is reactive -- it simply never receives a new prop.
library/composables/usePaneConfig.js owns the missing half: a composite registers
each pane element with a getter for its config, and a watchEffect re-forwards
whenever any reactive source that getter reads changes. It writes only when the
serialised config actually differs, because setting profile-config re-parses it
in the child and can remount what it drives -- an unconditional write per tick
would be a rerender loop. Stale elements (a rebuilt pane column) are skipped.
It is a library helper rather than three copies because regions-mfe, upg-100-mfe
and country-posters-mfe all assemble a config and set the attribute once; they
differ only in which keys they inherit, so each keeps its own
INHERITED_PAGE_KEYS and hands the result to the helper. This commit adopts it in
regions-mfe only; the other two are upg100's to adopt.
Two-sided, headlessly: a check that fails when a composite writes profile-config
on a child without re-forwarding names all THREE composites on development, and
on this branch regions-dashboard reports "re-forwarding=usePaneConfig" while the
other two still fail.
NOT VERIFIED IN A BROWSER YET. rega's LIVEDIAG is the falsifier: the nested
[profile-config] should show the OLD locale on development and the NEW one here.
Resolving package.json conflicts by unioning unique lines is right for a file
that holds one entry per line. Applied to ordinary source it duplicates
declarations, because both sides of a hunk keep their copy and nothing
de-duplicates across the join.
Eleven plugin entry points ended with the same import twice, and the poster
renderer with two identical `const sheet`. Each is a SyntaxError: every one of
those bundles would have failed to build, and the poster export would not run.
Found by parse-checking every changed .js against the merge base, not by the
gates -- gates:pre passed 101 of 102 with all twelve files broken, because its
parse gates do not cover plugin entry points.
One measurement trap worth recording. `node --check` on a .js file parses it as
CommonJS, so a bare `import` is a syntax error and ALL 28 entry points appear
broken, on development too. That reading says the tree is on fire and is simply
wrong. Copying each file to a .mjs and checking that parses it as a module,
which separates the eleven that are genuinely broken here from the rest that
are fine.
Seven Driver citations came back with the merged branches. Each keeps its
engineering reason and its date, and loses the speaker: the overlap report, the
poster's legend rule, the network-change defect, the chart's provenance.
check:plural-forms crashed rather than failed. It built its locale list by
listing the catalogue directory, so a README.md moved in beside the locale
folders became a 'locale', passed the exists check because a file does exist,
and crashed readdirSync on a non-directory. It now filters to directories. The
gate on development has the same line and only survives because that README is
not there yet -- so this is a fix for development, not a merge artefact.
Both found by running the full 103-gate chain; the shortened chain the merge
produced ran neither.
useLegendMapBridge took the idle paint helper as an injected dependency and
called it five times, while each consuming map defined its own copy of the
one-line body and handed it over. The library owned the paint logic and not the
expression it painted with, so the copies could drift apart silently and the
two maps would render the same idle state differently.
Export it from the composable instead, and take it from there in this map. The
injected parameter is deliberately KEPT for one round: inside the composable
the parameter shadows the module export, so what the bridge paints with is
still exactly what its callers pass, and this change cannot move behaviour. It
is a deletion in the plugin and an addition in the library, nothing more. The
parameter goes when the second map has adopted the export too.
This map held a THIRD copy under a different name -- a function-scoped helper
in the paint prewarm, byte-identical body, used once. It now refers to the
library helper.
Verified rather than assumed: the library version and both original plugin
versions produce identical output for every value the maps actually pass,
including the dynamic one. check:region-paint-single-source is green for this
map and stays red for the other until it adopts the export, which is the state
the gate is meant to report.
The second map is the other plugin's file and is not touched here; its owner
takes that half.
The pin click handler was registered on two layers that always overlap: the
visible pins and the invisible hitbox drawn over them. A layer-scoped click
fires once per registered layer with a feature under the point, and every
visible pin has a hitbox twin at its own point -- same source, larger radius,
added alongside it so taps are easier to land. So every pin click ran the
handler twice, 3ms apart. Measured on the leaf at 1440, on two different pins,
both reporting both layers at the click point; exactly twice, never more.
That already shipped as a visible bug once: the second call overwrote the
legend state the first had saved, so closing a people-group detail reopened a
legend the reader had deliberately collapsed. The store is now idempotent, so
that particular symptom cannot return, but the duplicate call was the cause and
is still here -- anything that counts, toggles, appends or reports from a pin
click is wrong by a factor of two, and nothing in the code warns the next
author.
Bind the click to the hitbox only. It covers every click the visible layer
would catch: both layers are created together by addLanguageFamilyLayer, from
the same source, and the two places that filter the hitbox mirror the pin
filter rather than narrowing it, so the two layers always carry the same
features. The handler reads only properties and geometry, which are identical
between them. Cursor handlers stay on both layers -- mouseenter and mouseleave
are idempotent, so they were never part of this.
Checked before relying on it: exactly one addLayer creates each of the two
layers, both inside addLanguageFamilyLayer as consecutive statements with no
branch between them; no flag gates the hitbox; no removeLayer anywhere touches
either; and the only layout writes on the pin layer set circle-sort-key. The
invariant is now stated at the binding, because it is not visible from the call
site: a pins layer added without a hitbox would get no clicks.
Also fixes a dead trap in the same file. The people-groups-pins branch called
the handler with no argument, so it fell back to the language-family pins and
bound the wrong layer. Nothing creates that layer today -- the id occurs only
in this file -- so the branch never runs, but whoever first adds it would have
got a duplicate binding, or no click handler at all if the language-family
layer were absent.
Since 2026-09-28 resolveMapProvider returns MapLibre for 'auto' whether or not a token is present;
only an explicit provider selects Mapbox. Four comments still said "Mapbox when a token is
available": useMapProvider.js's own header (and its note on the `token` argument),
useMapInstance.js at the provider option, check-provider-switch.mjs's contract note, and the
PROVIDER note that generate-tree writes into every leaf page.
The leaf page's note now says what the page does: it finds a token first only when one is on offer,
because place search uses one on either engine, and the element decides the engine. The 64 leaf
pages are regenerated and differ only in that note. The three JS files change in comments only
(compared minified, without renaming).
From the fleet census: 620 function bodies indexed across 29 plugin trees,
16 identical in two or more. These are the four cheapest — none closes over
anything beyond its own parameters, so each is a file move plus an import
rather than a new dependency to thread.
hostElement resolves the custom element a component is mounted inside, one
hop out through the shadow root. It was identical in three plugins, and it
is the piece worth sharing for a reason other than line count: every plugin
ships through defineCustomElement, a composite nests two shadow roots, and
code that forgets the hop operates on the wrong node while looking correct.
A document-level query for a node inside a shadow root returns null on a
working build, which reads as a broken feature rather than a wrong query.
Three copies were three chances to write that.
findScrollportAncestor walks up to the nearest ancestor that actually
scrolls, crossing shadow boundaries on the way — parentElement stops at a
root, so a plugin in a custom element would otherwise find no scrollport and
conclude the page does not scroll.
findNodeInTree and buildFlatLegendMatchExpr join useLegendMapBridge, which
already holds four functions from the same seam. They sit at module level
rather than inside the factory because they close over nothing: a pure
function hidden in a closure can only be reached by constructing the whole
bridge.
Call sites keep their old names through a one-line local binding, so no
call changed and the diff is the declaration plus an import.
Rebuild-and-compare, all five affected bundles, before -> after:
regions-dashboard 1,098,469 -> 1,098,479 +10
country-posters 1,484,053 -> 1,484,028 -25
doxa-research-map 1,354,051 -> 1,354,061 +10
dashboard-plus-grid 915,660 -> 915,644 -16
big-picture 366,907 -> 366,719 -188
net -209, and country-posters gains 25 bytes against the 1.5 MB ceiling.
Every behaviour-bearing token counted, not set-compared, and unchanged in
all three map bundles: regions-fill, peoplePraying, engagementStatus,
adoptionStatus, overflowY, scrollHeight, getRootNode, _flat_filter, religion.
Owners cleared their own files first: regions for regions-list.vue, upg100
for countries-map.vue. check:selection-kinds, check:legend-matches-source,
check:legend-data-contract, check:packet-variants, check:no-dead-library and
check:no-cross-plugin-imports all pass.
rega measured dashboard-plus-grid's own leaf at 390px: the page carried
"mobile": "desktop-only" in its profile-config, and the dashboard, the grid
and a MapLibre canvas mounted anyway. The rule lived in ProfileLoader, and
this composite defines its element without ProfileLoader (it bakes its
children in), so nothing on that page read the flag.
- library/composables/useScreenGate.js holds the rule (narrow screen, not
inside the Gallery, dismissed for the session); ProfileLoader uses it,
unchanged in behaviour.
- dashboard-plus-grid calls it: on a narrow screen the desktop-only message
replaces the element, and the dashboard and grid never mount.
- check:mobile-gating (g): every flagged profile's element must mount
through ProfileLoader (an import in its index.js, not a mention in a
comment) or call useScreenGate itself. The pre-fix composite fails it.
A single-file build inlines every import, dynamic ones included, so
packet-strings.json (~115 KB minified: every language's prayer points,
captions and headings) rode in every bundle that can print a packet, list
or card deck. With the wall's print messages translated, country-posters
crossed the 1.5 MB ceiling (1,502,226 bytes).
The table is now served at <assets>/lib/packet-strings.json and fetched at
the first print by library/packet/packetStrings.js, the same move as the
sheet generator and ne-places.json:
- Pinned like them: PACKET_STRINGS_SHA384 in poster-render.integrity.js
(pin-poster-render.mjs); the text is hashed before it is parsed, and an
unmatched table is not used. These strings are laid into the print
document, so an unverified copy never reaches it.
- English is bundled as the fallback (a named import of the JSON, so only
the en block ships): with no asset base, on file://, on a network error or
an integrity mismatch the print comes out in English and the console says
why. A print never fails for want of this file.
- generate-tree copies it into the pool AND the served allowlist; verified
by regenerating the tree (the served copy is byte-identical to source).
- check:poster-render-pinned, two-sided: the pin matches source and served
copy, the genuine copy loads all 11 languages, a tampered copy falls back
to English (mutation-tested: disabling the hash check fails it), and an
unserved one falls back rather than failing.
- sha384 is one shared helper (library/packet/sha384.js).
Sizes: country-posters 1,378,463 (was 1,484,053), my-upg-100-list 1,143,456
(was 1,243,509), regions-dashboard 973,802 (was 1,079,448).
The legend's region sections, its Deaf row and its one-country zones, the
wall's card names, the print progress and error messages, the map's status
badge and the Population column all rendered English in every locale. None
of them was visible to check:hardcoded-english: they were single words, .js
modules, Error() arguments, library components or number formatting.
- Legend: region rows through one REGION_KEY table shared with the wall
(poster.region_*, new region_deaf); zones through zoneTitle (tier A by
country, the Deaf row by its bloc name); node ids stay English-derived.
- Wall: card labels through zoneTitle, so the Show-on-map name, alt text,
tooltip, HUD title and printed title agree with the legend and packet.
- Errors a reader sees are keyedError(key, English, params);
errorText(e, t) shows them translated, and an unkeyed error still shows
its own message. Developer detail for a failed data load goes to the
console; the badge says upgMap.mapDataFailed.
- Population: Intl compact notation in the app's locale, same precision.
- Country Posters: the unsupported card's reason is
messages.countryPosterTooMany, not the data file's English note.
- Strings only the UPG-100 map shows move to a new upgMap area, so other
bundles do not carry them (country-posters 1,490,907 bytes).
- check:hardcoded-english judges keyedError's English as a fallback
(quiet when the key resolves everywhere, a finding when it does not);
check:label-key-coverage follows REGION_KEY to legend-tree.js and covers
the legend's table and its regionFor producer. Both self-tests two-sided.
openPrintFrame's autoprint prints on the frame's 'load', which waits for every image, but the frame was removed 60 s after it was CREATED, loaded or not. The Wall's poster loads 939 photos (132 MB), so on a connection below about 18 Mbps the frame was gone before 'load': no print dialog, and nothing to say so. Now the frame is reclaimed 60 s after its load, at afterprint (as before), or at a 10-minute ceiling for a load that never ends. printImageBlob revoked its object URL on the same creation clock, which blanks an image that has not loaded; it now follows the frame's clock too.
New gate check:print-frame-reclaim (gates:pre), fake timers and a fake frame, so 61 s and 10 minutes take no time: a load at 61 s still finds the frame (and the object URL), 60 s after load it is reclaimed, a frame that never loads goes at the ceiling and not before, afterprint reclaims at once. Two-sided: the copy before this fix fails 6 of its 12 cases (the load-after-61-s and ceiling arms); the controls pass on both.
countries-map.vue and research-map.vue share 1,756 lines across 60
contiguous blocks, and 78% of that is one concern: the wiring between a
semantic-tree legend and the map beside it. The two files already import
the same 41 library modules and the same five legend-data composables, so
the data layer was never the duplication. The glue was, and glue is where
a fix lands in one copy and not the other: the packet kind-split, the
poster attribution reading and the packet page-1 map hand-off each shipped
fixed in one twin and broken in the other.
Only the four functions that are BYTE-IDENTICAL in both files move:
clearCountryHighlight, _flatItemsToStlNodes, onLegendRowClick and
_bridgeSelection. Measured, not assumed — applyDimFilter (185 lines against
170) and switchTab (49 against 50) genuinely differ and stay where they
are. Sharing code that merely looks similar is how a refactor picks one
plugin's behaviour for both.
A composable rather than a component: the legend markup already lives in
SemanticTreeLegend and its two shells, and a component would have forced
both plugins to give up the template where their real differences live.
Nothing is injected or reached for, so a second dashboard can adopt it
without inheriting research-map's provide tree.
Both calls sit after countryOutline and pplrInstance. The declarations they
replace were hoisted and ran above those consts; a composable call is not
hoisted, and placed too early it would read undefined at the first call
rather than at import — the legend would stop highlighting with no error.
The gate asserts both the dependency list and that ordering, for every
caller.
Rebuild-and-compare on both bundles: research-map 1,237,385 -> 1,237,709
bytes, country-posters 1,550,988 -> 1,551,317, and every behaviour-bearing
token identical in both — regions-fill, regions-border, fill-opacity,
fill-outline-color, line-color, line-width, visibility,
doxa:legend-row-click, _flat_filter, iso_3166_1_alpha_3. Counted rather
than set-compared, because minified output renames freely.
104 lines out of the plugins, shared lines 1,756 -> 1,702.
The Driver's print standard: every export is generated when it is asked for, and only previews are
stored. The zone and country map sheets — the poster, and the map-only sheet on a packet's page 1 —
existed only if library/scripts/posters/generate.mjs (Node) had written them ahead of time; no country
had a print-resolution sheet at all.
- library/packet/poster-render.js is generate.mjs's drawing layer (2,645 lines) as a pure factory,
createPosterGenerator({ env, SERIES_DEF, ISO3_NAME, adm0, adm1Ind, adm1Chn, nePlaces, series }). Moved
VERBATIM (template literals carry their whitespace into the output), `process.env` read through a
local shadow; its inputs are its free variables, found by a scope-aware parse, not a grep (a grep
missed adm0, and the proof caught it). generate.mjs is now its Node driver.
- PROVEN BYTE-IDENTICAL: all 118 sheets of a pinned offline matrix — the 28 zones in 3x4, 3x3, letter
and packet, and a country sample at both sheet sizes — hash the same before and after.
- data/zone-sheet.js is which group pins in which zone (first claim wins), now ONE function both the
Node driver and the browser call, so a group cannot pin in one zone on paper and another on screen.
- library/packet/posterSheets.js feeds the factory in the browser: the served full-resolution
boundaries, the shared series and places tables, a generator per call (caching by format pinned the
first caller's data on every later sheet). generateCountrySheet does a country end to end;
data/zone-sheet-print.js a UPG-100 zone. ISO3_NAME moves to library/data (territory-counts re-exports).
- usePosterPrints gains opts.sheet: the poster print is the generated letter sheet as a VECTOR page,
and the packet's page 1 the generated map-only sheet (item.mapId honoured); stored images remain the
fallback when generation fails. PosterWall forwards it; the Country Posters wall, the UPG-100 wall and
the UPG-100 map pass it. The UPG-100 wall and map drop their own record fetches for the shared
provider, and the map's legend and selection HUD offer the card deck (production).
- check:poster-browser-equiv: the browser feed's sheet is byte-identical to the Node generator's for an
India zone (packet) and a country — proven two-sided (it fails when the feed drops the city dots).
check:selection-kinds reads the handler's branches instead of a fixed poster/packet pair, anchored on
`if (` (proven: it fails with the cards branch deleted). library/packet/README.md: the standard.
gates:pre 68/68; both bundles build.
RegionCountryMap builds its map popup by concatenation and escaped every value
in it -- the name, the religion, the description, the image, both button labels
-- except the two URLs:
<a class="cm-popup__btn" href="${profileUrl}">
Both come from joinBase(props.researchUrl, p.slug), and joinBase says plainly
that it only normalises slashes. So two untrusted values reached an HTML
attribute raw: the slug, which is API data, and the base URL, which is an
attribute set by whoever embeds the element. With a slug of
`x" onerror=alert(1) data-x="` the rendered tag is
<a href="https://doxa.life/research/x" onerror=alert(1) data-x="">
out of the attribute and into new ones. esc() was already imported in that file.
The same omission in library/packet/packet-render.js, found by sweeping for the
class rather than assuming it was one site: the people-group card writes
src="${src}" where src is photos.get(slug), and usePosterPrints builds that Map
directly from the API's image_url. esc(g.name) sits two lines below it.
Neither could be caught by review or by template analysis -- both are inside
template literals -- and the popup had never once rendered, because the Regions
map was grey. So the gate: no href= or src= in built HTML takes a raw
interpolation. Data URLs, blob URLs, encodeURIComponent and safeUrl() are
recognised as safe, each verified at its call site rather than assumed from the
name; anything else needs an href-escaped-ok: reason in the four lines above.
Two such reasons are recorded, for the two sites the check cannot see the safety
of: useMapAttribution's hrefs are module constants selected by engine type, and
export-public builds its rel entirely from encodeURIComponent one line earlier.
The sweep also cleared seven sites it first flagged -- three blob: URLs from
createObjectURL, two data: URLs from readAsDataURL, safeUrl(), and the
encodeURIComponent pair -- so the check now recognises those shapes instead of
reporting them.
Mutation-tested: reverting either fix alone turns the gate red. 6 self-tests
carry the founding bug and the safe shapes. gates:pre 65/66, the one red being
check:poster-action-print waiting on gospel's GiTree fix.
useOptionalT's fallback (the path a bundle with no vue-i18n takes) picked a plural form by English's
rule for every locale, so "21 народ" and Arabic's six forms came out wrong there — regions caught it
before wiring their wall. The fallback now uses the SAME CLDR selection library/i18n/index.js installs
(cldrChoiceIndex, now exported), and English keeps vue-i18n's own rule, so both paths print the same
form. Checked against the real code: ru 1/3/5/21, ar 0/2/5/11, en 0/1/7.
Every reference to the Driver in library/ is reworded: the engineering reason
stays, the speaker and the quote go, and a decision still open reads
"provisional, pending a product decision". Comments only: each changed file
is identical after stripping comments (JavaScript, template and CSS, including
CSS comments inside the style strings shadow-DOM components inject).
Those style-string comments do ship, so several bundles change by exactly
those comment bytes.
studio measured the trap: t(key) with no params BLANKS every placeholder. On
vue-i18n 9.14.5 "{nNone} of {nLang} have {noScripture}" comes back as " of have "
— so sentenceParts would find nothing to split on and the sentence would lose its
values, silently, in every locale at once. I reproduced it before building on it.
keep(...names) returns { name: '{name}' } to hand t(), making the lookup a no-op
over the placeholders. Preferred over tm(), which returns the raw string only
while messages are compiled at runtime; this works with precompiled messages and
with plurals, which is the point of the pattern.
The previous commit SAID it works with precompiled messages. It was not measured,
and it was wrong in the way that matters: the helper was right and the call
pattern around it was not, so every arm passed while the real thing would have
rendered a blank sentence. Three new arms run an actual createI18n — English
renders, Arabic reorders the clauses, and the negative control asserts that
WITHOUT keep() the placeholders really are blanked, so if vue-i18n ever stops
doing that we find out rather than carrying keep() by habit.
The pattern this replaces built a sentence by concatenating translated fragments
around untranslated text — "languages have", "of", "people." are each a separate
string in gospel-resources today. Arabic does not put those clauses in English
order, so translating the fragments yields Arabic words in English order:
grammatically broken, and worse than leaving it English, because it looks
translated and nobody re-checks it.
library/composables/useSentence.js takes ONE message with named placeholders and
a value per name. It renders sentinels, splits on them and drops the values back
in, so a translator moves the clauses freely and the markup survives as slotted
content: the bold counts and the dir="ltr" island are passed in, never written
into the catalogue. No <i18n-t>, and it works with precompiled messages.
Built to studio's four constraints: the caller passes a whole key literal (the
helper takes a MESSAGE and cannot assemble a key, so the build's area scan still
sees it); t comes from the calling component; a sentence with two counts receives
each already pluralised from its own key, since vue-i18n resolves one plural form
per key; and the sentinels are private-use (U+E000+n) so nothing in the pipeline
may rewrite them.
check:sentence-slots, 14 assertions, every arm with a negative control — and two
of them caught real defects in this change. A slot value of 0 rendered as an
empty string (the bug was in my test's flattener, not the helper — 0 is a real
count and "0 of 7,296" is a sentence a filter legitimately produces). And a
private-use character already IN a message was consumed as slot 0, printing
"a X b X" while the arm still passed because it only checked the value was
present; strays are now stripped before ours are placed, so every remaining mark
is ours by construction.
On a drop-in host's dev server a missing posters/<id>.webp answered
200 text/html (the app's own page), and export handed that page to the
print dialog as the image. The .html source path had the same hole: the
rasteriser lifts the first <svg> on whatever page it is given.
library/packet/poster-fetch.js now fetches both. A raster counts only if
it is an image: by content-type, or by its first bytes when a host labels
a WebP application/octet-stream. A source counts only if it is a poster
document (its class="stage" element); a 200 that is not one reports 404.
A thrown fetch on the raster stays a miss, so the source fallback still
runs; a thrown fetch on the source is still reported as itself.
Measured against a real local HTTP server with a single-page-app fallback:
real WebP accepted (image/webp and octet-stream), missing WebP refused
(200 fallback page and 404), real source accepted, missing source 404
(200 fallback page and 404), unreachable host a miss for the raster and
"fetch failed" for the source.
usePosterPrints uses it. PosterWall follows in its own commit.
The list kept its own page-1 map lift (packetMapSvg + packetLabelFor) beside the one in
usePosterPrints, and the two drifted: the list's relabelled country names, the wall's did not, which
is the zh finding rega made in the app. With the composable now taking iso3Names, the list passes it
and deletes its copy, so the list, the wall and any other map print page 1 through one path.
The selection packet borrowed one list's sheet when it held exactly one list. That is now a general
seam: item.mapId names the sheet when it is not the item's own id, and mapId: null says the item has
none, so a multi-zone selection fetches nothing and page 1 says the map is missing. Measured two-sided
through the real printPacket. gates:pre 66/66.
The i18n + RTL audit of Country Posters (the hardcoded-English gate only reads production plugins,
so it had never read this one; its scanner was run on the plugin directly and every hit triaged for
reachability, since the country map mounts one tab):
- 9 strings a reader sees were English in every locale: the search placeholder, the packet title's
"— 50 of N", the map-failed message, the wall's heading, tag, intro, soon message and item nouns,
and the view switcher's legend and label. All read from the catalogue now, reusing the existing
keys where they exist (tabs.selectView/views, the UPG-100 wall's tag and emphasis).
- The wall's section headings are the WAGF region labels in the data, English everywhere; they now
resolve through the Regions dashboard's own WAGF table, which gains its two missing regions.
- The three WAGF tier tooltips had no keys in any locale (legend.tabInfo.region/block/country).
- 0 physical-CSS findings.
PosterWall counted "N countries" as a number plus a 2-form noun pair and defaulted the plural to
noun + "s" — wrong for Russian and Arabic whatever strings it was given. It takes itemCountKey, a
plural catalogue key rendered with the count; useOptionalT forwards a plural count to vue-i18n (the
CLDR map picks ru 4 forms, ar 6, zh 1), and a host without i18n picks the English form by
vue-i18n's own rule. The people-group counts on the section heads and placeholder cards use
wall.peopleGroupCount the same way ("people groups" was hardcoded English on the cards).
The UPG-100 wall: its Americas and Europe section headings had no key (single words, invisible to
the gate), and it counts its lists with wall.listCount.
Checked: plural-forms, i18n-parity, keys-exist, never-translated, and i18n-treeshake against both
bundles built (26 bundles carry every area they ask for); gates:pre 66/66.
A host that draws its map live (the regions country map) has no posters/<id>.html to lift, so its
packets printed page 1 with the missing-map notice. usePosterPrints gains opts.mapImage(item): an
image or data: URL of the host's own map, placed by the renderer (mapFromImage) exactly as a poster
sheet is, the whole page inside the white margin. Order for page 1: an explicit mapSvg, then the
generated map, then the stored sheet. PosterWall forwards it as a prop. Measured two-sided through
the real printPacket: with mapImage the image is page 1 and no sheet is lifted; without it the
stored sheet is.
The composable's header now documents the whole contract — every option, which are optional, and
the row shape — so a map adopting it reads one comment instead of the wall that uses it.
The list's own print relabelled the map sheet (mapLabels.js); the wall's print, through
usePosterPrints, lifted the sheet with no relabeller, so a zh packet printed from the wall kept
INDIA, CHINA … on page 1. The generator's ISO3 -> name table is plugin data the library cannot
import, so the host now supplies it: PosterWall iso3Names -> usePosterPrints iso3Names, and the
UPG-100 wall passes its territory-counts table lazily. A host that passes nothing prints exactly as
before. Measured two-sided through the real printPacket on a tracked sheet: without the table the
page carries CHINA and no 中国; with it, 中国 and no CHINA.
